This course delves into Black Theology and the Black Social Gospel, focusing on the works of Gary Dorrien and James H. Cone. Students will examine how these scholars connect theology to the fight for racial and economic justice in the U.S. The journey of this course will take students through exploring the roots of the Black Social Gospel, its key figures and history. Students will also examine how Black Liberation Theology reinterprets Christian doctrines. Ultimately students will reflect on the relevance of these traditions for today’s racial justice struggles and Christian living.
